In bed with Bryan Slater

Hot new photo by Thomas Synnamon. See his work at:

So, when I originally posted this photo, it was with the idea of (on the 1 year anniversary of my first porn shoot) answering questions from fans. Finally, I am sitting down to do just that. Snuggle up close. There's plenty of room here next to me. Time for some pillow talk.

First of all, I'm amazed I HAVE fans! Second, I'm amazed I've been doing this for a year! The question I get most often is "what made you want to shoot porn?" That's the longest answer, so I'll save it for last. In no particular order, here are some frequently asked questions and answers:

Q: Is Bryan Slater your real name?

A: Shocking, I know, but it's a stage name. What? A porn star with a stage name? Yes. In this economy, I would like to hang onto my day job as long as possible, so be cool, y'all. Interesting fact, however, I was dubbed Bryan Slater by Victor Steele! He's partly to thank for my big porn adventure, so I had him name me. Why did he name me that? I have no idea. Maybe because it makes my initials B.S.? :D

Q: Who's been your favorite person/people to work with?

A: On screen: Scott Alexander (super sweet and so strong, he can pick me up and put me right where he wants), Ludovic Canot (so sexy AND funny), Blu Kennedy (totally adorable and completely in-tune with himself and whoever he's with), Charly Diaz (what a gorgeous ass...and he's a top!) & Daniel Holden (simply THE best kisser). Off screen: Brian Mills, Joe Gage, Ray Dragon, Robert Drake, Paul Wilde. I love these guys so much and would move heaven and earth to work with all of them again.

Q: Who would you like to work with?

A: Everyone I mentioned above...and onscreen: my buddy, Victor Steele, Ceasar, Rex Blackstone, Ted Colunga, Dean Flynn, Francesco D'Macho, both Daniel Marvin AND Pedro Andreas, Marco Blaze, Christian Alexander, Leo Giamani, Miami Levi and soooo many others. Offscreen: Chi Chi LaRue, Dominic Ford, Kent Taylor, Chris Ward and anyone at Falcon.

Q: What made you decide to do porn? How did you get into porn? What are you thinking? (or some other similar question)

A: "Because I can." That's the answer I give when I'm being cute and avoiding the real, long-winded answer.

The truth is, I spent most of my life not liking myself or the way I looked. A common problem with the gays. What's not-so-common is that I didn't come out until I was 28 and didn't have sex (at all!) until I was 29! Truth: when you don't like yourself, it's hard to imagine anyone else liking you. So, at 29, I found myself a sexual adolescent. The long and winding road of sexual discovery uncovered a lot more insecurities than I ever imagined, including my profound body shame. About 5 years ago, I just decided that I could continue to carry the weight of that negativity around - trying to find someone or some incident on which to place blame for my low self-image - or, I could just put it down and leave it. So I did. It wasn't as easy as it sounds, of course...but it also wasn't as hard as I thought. I read up on nutrition and started working out. Now, at 43, I feel a bit like Cinderella at the ball: looking better than I ever thought possible, but knowing the clock is ticking and that it won't last forever. The best part of this moment is that I'm both Cinderella and my own Fairy Godmother. I made it happen. And there is a joy and strength in that that I cannot describe.

Not long after I started working out, I was approached by photographer Walter Kurtz, who convinced me to pose for him. Through his lens, I saw myself in a way I never imagined: beautiful, strong,! Since I'd never seen myself this way before, I realized his photos documented part of my journey. As I continued to work with Walter Kurtz and many other photographers, I was surprised how much I enjoyed being in front of the camera. Gradually, as I became more comfortable with my physical appearance, I became more comfortable with sex and sexuality (and my newly-founded exhibitionist streak). So, when Michael Brandon offered to shoot a scene with Victor Steele and me, I saw it as an opportunity celebrate that part of my life as well...not to mention getting to work with two of the hottest men in the business! Although that scene didn't happen, it wasn't long until I was offered another one, this time by Owen Hawk.

To sum up: porn, for me, is a celebration of learning to love what I used to hate about myself...and, of course, an opportunity to show off. :)
